Rabsal is the term for window frame in Bhutanese house carpentry. The song “Rabsal with Gold Carving” talks about three types of window frames that are made of carved gold, carved silver and carved turquoise. The lyrics say that behind the window frame of carved gold sits the lama; behind the window frame of carved silver sits the ruler; and behind the window frame of carved turquoise sit the benevolent parents. The lyrics also instigates young people to offer dances of joy before the windows behind which those figures sit. This is a joyful song that generally attracts an audience during festivals in which singing and dancing are enjoyed.
