Buddhists believe that, besides humans and animals, other beings also exist in this samsaric world, such as heavenly gods, nagas (serpents), and local deities. Even though these beings cannot ultimately freed  from samsara, they can be pleased through offerings and rituals, solving our problems and blessing us with prosperity and success.
