The dance of the male and female Yamantaka (an aspect of the Bodhisattva Manjushri), also known as "Shenji Yabyum Cham", is performed by monks. The dance consists of two performers wearing masks of a bull's head and a costume known as "phego" that covers the whole body and has long sleeves made of brocade. The dancers wear a brocade in the shape of a thunderbolt (vajra), known as "dorjigong", over their shoulders along with traditional leather boots. The dance is usually performed as the opening to a full day's program of dances and is known as "Sacha Shenji", meaning "the Yamantaka that trod the land to discipline the area". The dance is performed in order to remove any obstacles to the celebrations, originating from the surrounding spirits.
