Lingi from Khominang village talks about the journey to Tso-khe in India. People of his village used to travel there. The journey started in the 9th month of the Bhutanese calendar. The people would wait for this moment in excitement, enjoying the journey together and sharing delicious meals along the way. After a week long journey they were welcomed by Indians, gifting them little chilies, radish, pepper, etc. People used to go to Tso-khe in the winter and stay there for more than four months, earning an income as laborers for Indians. They would return back home with some rice. As of today the Tso-khe journey no longer happens due to the development of Bhutan as well as this practice being banned by the government in the 1990s.

From the starting of the 9th month of the Bhutanese calendar, all we thought was about going to Tso-khe.
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiད་ལྟོ་ དབའེ་ཁྱིམ་ཚང་ཚུ་ག་ར་ ང་བཅས་ཚུ་གཅིག་ཁར་འགྱོ་ནི་གི་ཆང་རེ་བཙོ་དོ་འོང་ད། ཆང་རེ་བཙ་ོ་སྦེ་ ག་ར་ཕར་ཚུར་འབད་དེ་གཅིག་ཁར་འགྱོ་ནི་ཨིན་སྨེ།"Hey! Are you all now preparing alcohol for all of us for Tso-khe journey?", We will prepare alcohol and travel together.
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiདེ་ལས་ ད་ལྟོ་ གཟའ་སྐར་རེ་བལྟ་སྟེ་ དེ་ཅིག་ཁར་འགྱོ་སྦེ་ གཅིག་ཁར་འགྱོ་ནི་གྲ་སྒྲིག་འབད་སྨེ། ད་འགྱོ་ནི་གྲ་སྒྲིག་འབད་ཡི་སྨེ་ད་ ད་འབདན་ཞུ་ནི།"Then, now look for a good day and prepare to travel together." Now we are prepared. I will start.
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiཡ་དབའེ་ ཆུ་ཚོད་གཅིག་ཨིནམ་འོང་ འབབ་དོ་འོང་ཁྱེད་ཚུ་ཡང་དབའེ་ ཡ་ཡ་ འགྲོས་ཀྱིས་འབད་འགྱོ་གེ་སྨེ་ འགྲོས་ཀྱིས་འགྲོས་ཀྱིས་འབད་ཡ་ དེ་ལས་ ཁ་བར་ལུ་ལྷོད་འོང་སྨེ་ལགས། ཁ་བར་ལྷོདཔ་ད་ལུ།"Hey! is it at one O'clock? Are you all moving? Lets move slowely." Now we reach Khabar.
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiག་ཏེ་འདུག་ ཁྱེད་ཚུ་གི་ཁུར་ཆ་དེ་ག་ཏེ་ཧེན་ཏེ་འདུག་དབའེ་ ང་བཅས་ཀྱི་ཁུར་ཆ་འབག་མི་ཚུ་ལུ་ཡང་སླབ་ཅི་ས་ གཅིག་ཁར་ཧེན་ཟེར་ ཨེའེ་ ཡ་ཡ་ གཅིག་ཁར་འདུག་ གཅིག་ཁར་འདུག ད་ལྟོ་ བྱག་ལམ་ཁར་ ཆང་ལེ་ཤ་མ་འཐུང་ ཁྱེད་ཁུར་ཆ་འབག་མི་ཆ་ཁྱབ་ཡང་གནམ་མེད་ས་མེད་མ་འཐུང་ ཨ་ཙི་རེ་ཐུང་མ་རེད་ ང་བཅས་ག་ར་ག་ཅི་གུ་ཅི་འབད་འོང་ མར་ཉལ་སར་ལྷོདཔ་ད་འབདན་ ག་དེམ་ཅིག་འཐུང་ཚུགས་ཚུགསཔ་འཐུང་ ད་ལྟོ་བྱག་ལམ་ནང་ལེ་ཤ་མ་འཐུང་།"Where is your carrier? Under the rocks at the river, the black crabs moving their pincer, we can see it."
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiདབའེ་ལམ་དར་མ་ཐང་སིང་ཀི །ཡ་ཕོ་ཆང་ལ་ཉི་བསམ་པ། །ཡ་གཏོར་བེ་ཨཱུན་ཅ་ན། །ཡ་བྲོང་ཅོ་བྲོང་ཅོ་ དེ་ལེ་ཨའེ་བསམ་ ནེའི་བསམ་ཨོ་ཐ་ཡིབ་ཉི་ད་སུར་མང་གི། དབའེ་ལམ་དར་མ་ཐང་སིང་ཀི །ཡ་ཟླཝ་གསུམ་གྱི་ཕོ་ཆང་། །ཡ་གཏོར་བར་འོང་དོ། །ཡ་ལོངས་ཤིག་ལོངས་ཤིག་ འགྱོ་གེ་ང་བཅས་ཆ་ཁྱབ་ ཁྱེད་ཚུ་འ་ནཱ་གཉིད་ལོག་ཨ་ཙི་མེན་སྨེ།"Hey! way of the plain[?], Phochang of three months, we are coming to offer. Now get up, get up, Lets go. You all are not listening."
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiཡ་མིང་ཤི་གོང་ལམ་ད་ཟ། །ཡ་ཡུ་ལེའི་ཡུ་ལེའི་དོང་རང་། ། ཡ་མིང་འདི་གྱེན་ལམ་ཆུང་ཀུ། །ཡ་འབབ་ཅི་འབབ་ཅི་མར་ར། །འགྱོ་ཤིག་ སེ་ཀྲོམ་བཏང་བྱིན་འོང་ཨ་ནཱི་ཨ་ལོ་འདི་ ཨ་ཁ་་་་ འབག་ཚུགས་སྦོ་ ཨ་པ་དང་ཨའི་གིས? འགྱོ་འགྱོ་ མར་མར་ ཉ་རྭཝ་ལས་བཏགས་བཞག་སྟེ་ཡོད་ ཉ་རྭཝ་ལས་བཏགས་ཏེ་ འགྱོ།"Gonglan Daza (name of a place), we are climbing down. Lets go or I'll hit you on your head (to a child). How can your mother and father carry you? Go, lets go, We have tied fish by it's horn down there (a lie to seduce kids to get going).
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiཡ་ལྟོ་ཟ་སར་ལྷོད་ཅི་ཏེ་ ཁུར་ཆ་འབག་མི་ཆ་ཁྱབ་ ལྟོ་བཟའ་ནི་གྲ་སྒྲིག་རྐྱབ་སྨེ་ད་ གཅིག་ཁར་ཟ་སྦེ་ དེ་ལས་ཁྱེད་ཚུ་སྒར་བཅགས་པར་སོང་ མར་སོང་སྟེ་གཅིག་ཁར་ ནཱ་ང་བཅས་ཉེཝ་ག་ར་གཅིག་ཁར་འཛོམས་ཏེ་ འ་ནཱི་ཚུ་ག་ར་སྒར་གཅིག་ཁར་བཅགས་མ་རེད་ ཡར་མར་འབད་སྦེ།"It's lunch now, prepare for lunch. After lunch you all can go prepare the camp. Go down and prepare camp together for the families."
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiདེ་ལས་ མར་[སྤཱརན་དུ་?]ལྷོདཔ་ད་ཨ་ཙི་ཅིག་ངལ་འཚོ་ནི་ ཁྱེད་ཆ་ཁྱབ་བདའ་མི་ཟུན་ ཁུར་ཆ་འབག་མི་ཚུ་ ཆང་རེ་ཁྱེད་ར་ཚུ་བཏོན་འཐུང་། དེ་ལས་[སྤཱརན་དུ་?]ལྷོདཔ་དེ་ ཨ་ཙི་ཅིག་ངལ་གསོཝ་ཨིན་ དབའེ་ ཨ་མ་ག་ཅི་སྨོ་ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་འདི་ འགྱོ་ཟེར་རང་སླབ་སྡོདཔ་མས།"Then we take little rest at Prondu. You carriers can have drinks of your own as we won't be able to serve you all." We take little rest after reaching Prondu. "Hey! don't dream (to a mother)."
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiསྒུགས་སྨེ་ འཚབ་འཚབ་མ་འབད་ རྐངམ་ ཀམ་བཀུམ་འབད་ཡི། དེ་ལས་ མར་སོང་སྟེ་ མཁར་པའི་ལམ་ཁར་ མཁར་པའི་ལམ་ཁར་ ཕར་ཁ་ཐུག་རིངམ་སྦེ་ དེ་ལས་འབདན་ མཁར་པའི་ལམ་ཁར་ལྷོད་འོང་ལགས།"Wait, Don't hurry, my leg is numb. Then, after going down. It is Kharpa Lam at the top of the other side." Now we reach Kharpa Lam.
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiམཁར་པ་ལམ་ཁར་ལྷོད་དེ་ དེ་ལས་ཆང་བསྡུ་སྟེ་འཐུང་འོང་ ག་ར་རེ་རེ་ཉེཝ་ཚུ་ལས་བསྡུ་སྟེ་ དེ་ལས་ལ་ལུ་གིས་བ་མར་བཏོན་ ལ་ལུ་གིས་ཕགཔ་གི་ཚིལ་ལུ་བཏོན་ དེ་ལས་དྲོད་བཏགས་ དེ་ལས་མ་པ་ལས་མེད་མི་ཚུ་གིས་ ཀ་ལ་རྫམ་དམརཔོ་བཟོ་སྟེ་ ཁལཝ་ ཟེར་སྐད་རྐྱབ་འོང་འདི་གིས་ཡང་ ཀ་ལ་རྫམ་དམརཔོ་བཟོ་སྟེ་བ་མར་དང་ཚིལ་ལུ་མེད་མི་ དེ་སྦེ་འབད་སྦེ་ དྲོད་བཏགས་འཐུང་སྟེ་ཉལ་འོང་།After reaching Kharpa Lam we collect alcohol and drink. Some will contribute alcohol and some will contribute butter to mix with Alcohol by heating. Some will contribute butter, some will contribute pig's fat. The one who does not have any butter they will also make the heating sound just by pouring alcohol on the heated pot. After drinking we go to sleep.
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiཉལ་སྦེ་ ནངས་པར་དྲོ་པ་ དྲོ་མཛར་འབད་སྦེ་འགྱོ་འོང་ གཡོགཔ་ཚུ་གིས་དྲོ་མཛར་འབད་སྦེ་འགྱོ་འོང་ དེ་ལས་ཉལ་ས་ལས་མར་འབབ་ད་ལུ་ཆུ་འཕྱད་འོང་ ཨ་ཆུ་མི་འགྱོ་ང་མི་འགྱོ་ཟེར་སྔུ་འོང་ཨ་ལོ་གིས་ དེ་ལས་སེ་ཀྲོམ་གྱིས་རྐྱབ་འོང་དེ་ལས་ ཁོ་འདི་རྐངམ་ན་སྟེ་ཡོད་ གྱང་སྟེ།In the morning workers prepare breakfast and having it we continue our journey. But before we continue, "Kids cry saying I don't want to go" because their leg is in pain and its cold and we hit them on their head.
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiདེ་ལས་མར་འགྱོ་ ལམ་ཁར་ལས་ཁི་རུ་(རུ་སྦྱིས་)འཚོལ་འབག་ རུ་སྦྱིས་ཅིག་འོང་ལགས་ ཁྱིམ་བསྡམ་ནི་གི་ དེ་ལས་མར་འགྱོ་ མར་རབ་ཙ་ལོ་ལུ་ལྷོདཔ་ད་ལྟོ་ཟ་ ལྟོ་འབད་སྦེ་ མར་ལྷོད་འོང་ མར་གཙོ་ཁི་ལྷོད་སྦེ་ དེ་ལས་ཀཝ་འཐེན་ ཀཝ་ལྷོང་།Then we move down, we collect rope like stem for the camp. After we reach Rab-tsa-lu, we prepare meal and eat. Then we reach Tso-khe, there we prepare pole and fix it.
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiདེ་ལས་ སྤག་ཤིང་བཏོན་ གྲ་སྒྲིག་བཟོ་འོང་ ཨམ་ལ་ལུ་གིས་ཆང་དྲངས་ཏེ་ཉལ་སྡོད་འོང་ལགས། ག་ཅི་སླབ་རུང་ཉན་མ་བཏུབ་པར་ ལ་ལུ་གིས་ གཡོག་འབད་བྱིན་འོང་ ཁུར་ཆ་འབག་མི་ཚུ་ལྟོ་བཀྱེས་བཀྱེསཔ་འོང་ཟེར།Then we get bamboos and prepare the camp. Some lady will get drunk and sleep. They won't listen whatever we say. Some will help with chores and prepare meal for the hungry carriers.
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiཨམ་ལ་ལུ་གིས་ ཁུར་ཆ་འབག་མི་ལྟོ་བཀྱེས་རུང་བཀྱེས་ ཚ་གྱང་མེདཔ་སྦེ་སྡོད་འོང་ དེ་ལས་ དོས་འབག་མི་ཚུ་ཟ་སྦེ་ [རྩྭ་སྐམ་?]ལེན་པར་འགྱོ་འོང་ [རྩྭ་སྐམ་?] ལྷོད་འོང་ [རྩྭ་སྐམ་?]ལྷོད་ཞིནམ་ལས་ཁྱིམ་ཐོག་བཀབ་སྟེ་བསྒྲུབས་འོང་ ཨ་ཙི་ཅིག་བཀབ་མི་ཚར་ ཉིནམ་འདི་ནང་།Some lady will not help with chores even if the carriers are hungry. After drinking and letting carriers eat, they go to collect grass like straw and will come back and prepare the thatch. It won't get complete on that day.
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiདེ་ལས་ ཨ་ནཱ་ལས་ ལྟ་མ་ཨ་ཙི་ཁ་ལས་ དོས་འབག་མི་ཚུ་ ཁྱིམ་བསྒྲུབས་ཚར་སྦེ་ ཡར་ལྟ་ལོག་འགྱོ་འོང་ དེ་ལས་ང་བཅས་མར་འགྱོ་འོང་ཁྱོསམ་བྱིན་པར་ ཁྱོསམ་བྱིན་ད་ བྱིན་འོང་གདན་ཤིང་ལེབ་(ཨུབ་སྟེགས)གཅིགNext day after completing the camp, carriers return back. We go to gift them. they will give us a stool made of plank.
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiད་ལྟོ་ ཕར་ཉེཝ་ རྒྱ་གར་གྱིས་ ལྷོད་ཅི་ག? འོང་ཡི་ག? ཟེར་དགའ་དྲགས་འོང་། ཨེ་མ་ཨ་ཙི་ཅིག་ ལ་ཕུག་ཨ་ཙི་ཅིག་ ཐིང་ངེ་ཨ་ཙི་ཅིག་བྱིན་ དེ་ལས་ཕར་ལས་ ལྟོ་ཟ་ ཕར་ལས་རེད་ཨ་ཙི་ཅིག་བྱིནམ་སྦེ་ དེ་ལས་ལོག་འོང་ཏེ་ཡར་ལྟ།Then, we would be so happy when Indian welcome us asking have you all came and all? We would gift them little chillies, raddish, pepper and all. We would return back home eating a meal from there with some rice to take home.
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiལོག་སྟེ་རང་ ལོག་ཡར་ལྟ་ལོག་འོང་ ཡར་ལྟ་ལོག་སྟེ་ [ཕོ་སོ་སོ་སོ་སོ་ ཡ་པུརཔ་པུརཔ་པུརཔ་པུརཔ་?] འགྱོ་དོ་ མར་གཙོ་ཁི་སྡོད་པའི་གྱིབ་མ་(སེམས་)ལུས་འོང་ཟེར་འབོ་སྟེ་ པུརཔ་པུརཔ་ཟེར་ཤོག་ ནཱ་ལུ་མ་སྡོད་ཟེར་སླབ་སྟེ་ དེ་ལས་ཡར་ལྟ་འོང་ ཡར་ལྟ་འོང་སྟེ་ གླུ་གཞས་འཐེན་འོང་ མར་ལས་ཡར་ལྟ་འོང་སྟེ་ གྱེན་གྱི་རྩ་བ་ལས་ལྷོདཔ་ད་ མར་གྱེན་གྱི་རྩ་བ་ལས་ཡར་ལྟ་འཐེན་འོང་།We say some words and call the soul so that it is not left there (belief). We return after that and sings. We would start singing from the starinng of the slope (Gonglam daza).
- གླིང་གི་ Lingiཡ་ཆུ་ཆེན་པོ་ལ་བརྒལ་བ། །ཡ་ཐོགས་ལ་ལ་ཆེན་པོ་ག །ཡ་ལ་ཆེན་པོ་ག་གཤེགས་པ། །ཡ་ལ་དར་ཕུལ་ཐཱན་དེ་ཁེའི། ། ཡ་ཆུ་ཆེན་པོ་འདི་བརྒལ་ཡི། །ཡ་ཐོགསཔ་མས་ལ་ཆེན་པོ་ལུ། །ཡ་ལ་ཆེན་པོ་ལུ་ལྷོད་ཅི། །ལ་དར་ཕུལ་ཏེ་འགྱོ་གེ །"We have crossed the huge river, we can see the huge mountain, we have reached the huge mountain. Lets offer prayer flag and move on."
