In this video, Lotey from Khyime Pang village in Punakha District sings a song called “This Hill and That Hill” (Ripargyiri dang Tsurgyiri). The song is an old Bhutanese folk song that has recently been recorded in a modern version. The song talks about the forbidden love between young people. The lyrics of the song say “this hill and that hill continuously face each other, but they do not interact because there is a river that goes between them. A bridge should then be built over the river.” In a similar way, the song says that a young man should not listen to his father because his father will not allow him to be together with the woman he loves. Therefore, the parents should do a retreat, or maybe the love itself needs to change.
